BEA1991, real name Beatriz de Rijke, is an audio-visual artist with a background in aerial acrobatics. She’s influenced largely by playful satire and contemplative animism. Her work focuses on creating experimental pop music and collage sound design, along with numerous projects that extend into the visual arts.

Bea began releasing music independently in 2014, gaining instant international acclaim with The Guardian, Dazed Digital, The Fader, i-D and BBC Radio. Between 2014-2019 Bea moved between Amsterdam, London and New York, writing and recording her debut album “Brand New Adult” with producers Liam Howe, Benny Sings and Dev Hynes, consequently contributing writings to several tracks on the Blood Orange albums “Freetown Sound” and “Negro Swan” – with appraisals by Rolling Stone Magazine and in Dazed Digital’s highlight “Women of Freetown Sound”.

Similar melodic vocals and lyrical writings can be found on various releases by Sega Bodega and Porches. Early in 2021 Bea worked on an ambient album at the Simeon Ten Holt AIR in Bergen aan Zee, and later that year she released her ambient club single “Tranquility” produced by Sega Bodega.

With sound collage having been Bea’s starting point in 2011, she again found herself being seduced by the art of scoring. Drawing expressive clients such Eckhaus Latta, Maisie Wilen, Palais de Tokyo, POP Trading Company, CAFEfx, HBO and Tommy Jeans, audio design has now become a solid part of Bea’s playful world.

The current BEA1991 discography consists of two albums, two EPs and seven singles. Collages and club mixes can be found at NTS, Red Light Radio, Know Wave, The Lot Radio and Radio Radio archives.
